The number of people permitted at events in the Czech Republic will be raised to 500 on June 8 and to 1,000 on June 22. These numbers have been approved by epidemiologists based on the development of the coronavirus in the Czech Republic over the past weeks.

Event participants will still need to observe social distancing and sanitary measures. A two-meter distance must be kept between people, and organizers must provide disinfectants at event entrances.

The move is the latest in a series to ease anti-coronavirus measures in the country following a multi-step plan to re-open shops, services, and businesses that will culminate on May 25.

The measure allowing events for larger numbers of people will apply to both indoor and outdoor events, allowing for a larger number of people to attend theater, cinema, music and other events than has previously been allowed.

Currently, only events with a maximum of 100 people are permitted to take place.

While the current recommendation to purchase tickets in advance online rather than at the venue is still advised, this won’t be a requirement, Vojtěch stated.

The easing of anti-coronavirus measures related to events and businesses is contingent on the development of coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic.

Deputy Health Minister Roman Prymula has previously stated that if the reproduction number,  i.e. the average number of people a coronavirus infection will spread to, rises above 1.0, the country will alter its plans to ease anti-coronavirus measures.

The reproduction number has been around 0.7-0.8 in the Czech Republic over the past two weeks.
