Number of confirmed Czech coronavirus cases crosses 2,000 after record high number of tests

The Czech Republic registered 259 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, about 30 fewer than Wednesday's record increase

Prague, March 27 (CTK) – The Czech Republic registered 259 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, about 30 fewer than Wednesday’s record increase, and the country’s total number of cases reached 2,062, according to the updated information on the Health Ministry’s website.

Thursday also saw a further increase in the number of tested people, which reached the daily record of 4,429.

A total of 31,127 samples have been tested since the coronavirus outbreak.

Ten COVID-19 patients have died in the Czech Republic so far.

Three deaths were reported on Thursday, all elderly people with further serious health troubles.

An 80-year-old man died in the university hospital in Hradec Kralove, east Bohemia. He suffered from a very severe disease still before testing positively for COVID-19 a few days ago.

The other two victims are two women, clients of the old people’s home in Prague-Michle. In addition to their high age, they suffered from severe diseases.

The first three coronavirus cases appeared in Czechia on March 1. The so far highest daily increase in their number was on Wednesday, March 26, when 291 new cases were confirmed.

Thursday’s rise is the second highest.

On the other hand, the number of tested people has been steeply rising as well. Last weekend, about 2,000 were tested a day, while the number of tests crossed 2,200 on Monday and reached some 3,000 on Tuesday, 4,100 on Wednesday and 4,429 on Thursday.
