& PLAYS FRINGE FESTIVAL PRAHA 2010
This month sees the release of Prague-based UK singer-songwriter Alasdair Bouch’s debut album ‘First Person Singular’, available to buy as a limited edition CD, hand-numbered to 1000 copies. His genre-defying original material encompasses rootsy alt-folk, melodic power-pop and blue-eyed soul, and his highly personal lyrics and impassioned delivery perhaps best earns it the description ‘confessional blues’.
A throwback to when music was wooden and meant something, ‘First Person Singular’ is the sound of your lover leaving for the last time, the sun rising the next morning, and the calm before the next storm… Tender, witty and honest, these timeless songs touch a raw nerve, sparking a jolt of recognition.
Alasdair is joined on ‘First Person Singular’ by a magnificent pocket orchestra, featuring Byron Asher (clarinet, saxophone), Lucy Fillery-Murphy (cello), Mathieu Gautron (accordion), Tom Smith (piano) and Geoff Tyson (bass). The album was produced by Geoff Tyson (www.geofftyson.com) in Prague.
Alasdair is playing the Fringe Festival Praha 2010 (www.fringe.cz), with a special, accompanied, candle-lit acoustic performance in Kostel sv. Jana Křtitele Na Prádle on June 3, 4 & 5 at 20:30. It promises to recreate the warm intimacy and texture of his debut and its forthcoming follow-up ‘Second Hand Lullabies’.
Alasdair Bouch biography:
His live career began over twenty years ago in a series of projects that led from punk/indie garage, through long-haired 60s guitar romps, soul, blues and Americana, to his current trademark brand of blue-eyed soul and power-pop. A sometime English teacher, funk/soul DJ, illustrator, travel writer and film critic, Alasdair Bouch has built a devoted following since wandering off the hectic global highway to make Prague his home over three-and-a-half years ago. He hasn’t looked back.
‘Terrific… as if the ghost of Otis Redding has stumbled into the room.” The Guardian
‘First Person Singular’ is available now at concerts, in selected stores in Prague, to order in record shops worldwide (through UK retail/worldwide export distributor F Minor), or through all of your favourite Internet stores.
