Overtone Festival is a new concept music festival slated to take place four times annually at venues across Prague and Brno with the inagural edition kicking off at Riegrovy Sady this summer. A smaller scale event focusing on quality acts, the first outing will be headlined by German duo Milky Chance (think singer-songwriter meets electronic beats) and Danish popsters The Asteroids Galaxy Tour with additional acts to be announced.
The Prague-based 101 Collective, devoted to promoting local artistry via regular live music and cultural events, is gearing up for its first music festival in historic Loket outside of Karlovy Vary. Taking its cues from British festivals such as Secret Garden Party and Shambala, the line-up includes performances from expat favorites Yo Soy Indigo, Duchess and the Kittens, TiNG, Justin Lavash, and Prague theater company Blood, Love and Rhetoric, plus a DJ stage, fire dancing workshops, and kid’s zone.
Czech marquee names Chinaski, Wohnout, Mandrage, David Kraus, and Lake Malawi play the mainstage of this new festival organized by Miss Czech Republic and Miss World—and human rights activitst—Taťána Kuchařová under the banner of her foundation Beauty of Help, an organization devoted to assisting the elderly. All proceeds collected for this six-stage, family-friendly festival go directly to the foundation.
This brand new festival is more about meat than music: the Kansas City Barbecue society will host a barbecue competition along the banks of the Vltava with local and international bbq bosses competing for glory in the areas of chicken, ribs, brisket, and pork. The music portion of the entertainment features twangy banjo bluegrass from Beyond Belief, Giant Moutains, Rustic Robots, and the Jumper Cables.
Dyzajn Market isn’t a new festival by any means, having launched its popular event showcasing the local design scene in 2010. The annual summer edition just completed a succesful Hithit campaign that will allow it to add a music festvial element to this season’s market. On top of 160 plus designers exhibiting their wares, ten local bands including Eddie Stoilow, Sunflower Caravan, and Circus Problem will appear on the main stage. Admission is free.
