The official Prague Old Town Square NYE celebration gets underway at 5pm with DJs performing throughout the evening and food stalls open late-night. Because massive crowds and enclosed spaces are not for the faint of heart, may we also suggest:
Spend Silvestr with the Bard…
The Prague Shakespeare Company will stage William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play, a lively abridged re-telling of some of the most famous speeches and plots from Shakespeare’s thirty-nine plays. Each ticket comes with a free invite to the New Year’s Eve party in the Swan Divadelni Klub following the performance. More info
The National Theatre has put together a lavish celebration at the Estates Theatre: arias from The Magic Flute, opluent refreshments, and a midnight toast are followed by dinner and dancing on the same stage where Mozart debuted Don Giovanni. Cheap seats start at 7,990 CZK. More info
Do Like the Cool Kids Do
This year saw the opening of Vnitroblock in Holešovice, a hybrid hang-out that is an extension of the Anděl industrial space Radlická Kulturní Sportovna. The combination cafe, shop, dance club, and possibly Prague’s tiniest cinema Pidikino, will team up with its cool older siblings for a night of dancing and drink (held at Radlická; entry is free). Celebrate with International Flair
Vietnamese cafe, lounge, and cooking school Bento House is serving a NYE sushi “last supper” with all-you-can-eat appetizers and a sushi menu for two; Wine Food Market hosts its annual Italian-style Silvestr while ROOM will throw a Black and White Ballroom Party with Spanish tapas and never-ending Sangria.
For the club set: Ten resident Roxy DJs will perform on three stages with videomapping and light shows; the Vlkova 26 bash kicks off around 11:30ish for the fashionably late. If warehouse/techno/rave are your good-time buzz words, hit Dark & Deep NYE at 36 Underground or NYE/NYD Warehouse party at Room KOMIKS.
Have a Farm-to-Table Festivity
Clubs and in-your-face pyrotechnics are not for everyone. In fact, staying up past 9pm is not for everyone. For those among us who will likely sleep through to 2017, Náplavka and Jirák farmer’s market are open from 8am-4pm for an early afternoon buzz (or to stock up on gourmet goodies for your party).
