Standup comedy has taken off across the globe over recent decades, and even become a regular staple on the Prague scene even if the city has yet to debut a dedicated comedy club.

There are a number of great regular standup comedy nights at venues across the Czech capital, including those that are presented in English. Both Czech and expat comics frequently feature among the rosters, and traditionally give the shows some unique local flavor.

We’ve put together the below list with some of our favorites. While live events are currently on the downswing due to the developing COVID-19 situation in the Czech Republic, these are some Prague’s hottest standup nights to keep an eye out for in the future.

Velvet Comedy Club

Established in 2017 and billed as the first regular English-language standup comedy show in Prague, Velvet Comedy Club is still going strong despite the current COVID-19 situation.

Currently, Velvet has weekly comedy nights at the Ty kávo! coffee shop in Prague 5. Previously, the Club was a mainstay at the Czech Inn hostel on Krymská, where it may return in the future.

Tickets to Velvet Comedy Club shows can be booked via GoOut, and typically run 150 crowns. Keep an eye out for other special shows including Roast Battles, and appearances in other cities: beyond Prague, Velvet Comedy Club has also put together shows in Brno and Bratislava.
