December 1, 2015 marks the 80th birthday of one of contemporary cinema’s most iconic figures, New York-based director Woody Allen.
Allen began his nearly 60-year career in the late 1950s writing for television with Mel Brooks, Sid Caesar, and others.
He made his directing debut in 1966 with What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, a re-dubbed version of Japanese action film.
For 1977’s Annie Hall, which also won Best Picture, Woody won Oscars for Screenplay and Direction. He’s been nominated for a total of 24 Oscars, winning four.
Since 1982, he has released at least one feature film every year.
To mark the occasion of Woody Allen’s 80th, Prague’s Kino Aero is having a week-long retrospective that covers some of the director’s acclaimed works along with his most recent movies.
