Czech Amazon Possibly In the Works

There has long been speculation about when those living in the Czech Republic will be able to order from Amazon; currently the Amazon.cz address redirects to Amazon.de (which introduced free shipping to the Czech Republic for orders over 39 EUR in November).

A recent iDnes.cz article that cites a job listing from the company website, suggests that the day may soon arrive when the on-line retailer will begin filling domestic orders.

The job opening seeks a “content editor to help develop our expansion into the EU.” It appeared on the site on December 20.

The company opened a fullfilment center in Dobroviz in September 2015; it has seen its number of employees increase by a third, even opening a railway station just for staff.

So far, Amazon has acquired approximately 50,000 Czech client accounts.

While many would welcome the wealth of electronics and other goods offered by the on-line giant, critics are debating whether the company would prey on local competitors, particularly small suppliers.

There are 30,000 e-shops in the Czech Republic, one of the highest shares per capita in the world.

In related news, Amazon Prime Video expanded into an additional 130 countries including the Czech Republic last month.
