Hero Opponent Saves Czech Goalkeeper’s Life in Weekend Match

Ivorian-born striker Francis Koné’s quick response likely saved the life of Bohemians goalie Martin Berkovec Saturday

Football heroics in the Czech Republic are making international headlines this morning as a weekend match between Praha Bohemians 1905 and Slovácko saw a feel-good outcome despite the goalless score.

Local media sources, including iSport.cz, are reporting that Bohemians 1905 goalkeeper Martin Berkovec collided with defender Daniel Krch 30 minutes into the First League game.

The collision knocked out Berkovec who subsequently swallowed his tongue. Opposing striker Francis Koné, the nearest player on the pitch, rushed to the unconscious player’s assistance, removing his tongue from his mouth.

Koné’s quick thinking likely saved Berkovec’s life. The 28-year-old later underwent a CT scan and spent a night in the hospital for observation.
