Prague to Welcome Returning Czech Olympians with Old Town Ceremony

Celebrations are shaping up for an Old Town ceremony honoring returning Olympians and a big-screen hockey event should the Czech team make the finals

Prague City officials have announced that they will be organizing a welcome ceremony for the Czech Olympians returning from PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games.

The welcome ceremony should take place in the Czech capital’s Old Town Square on Monday, February 26; so far no time for the event has been publicized.

Good news for hockey fans: Should the Czech team advance to the finals, the match will be broadcast on a jumbo screen from Old Town on February 25.

The Czech ice hockey team beat the US in the quarterfinals Tuesday and will play a semi-final match against Russia Friday morning.

No word yet on which athletes will be honored at Old Town Square, although snowboarder Eva Samková returned to the country this week, making an appearance at the Olympic festival in Brno.

It would be a true homecoming for Olympic gold medalist and unexpected alpine skiing superhero Ester Ledecká who grew up in Pragues Old Town.

Old Town Square has a long history as a site of sports-related celebrations, including the winning hockey team from the 1998 Nagano Olympics and the 2010 World Cup team.
