Anděl Metro Gets a Street Art Makeover

If you’ve traveled through the Anděl metro station recently, you might have noticed the station’s entire midsection is inaccessible, blocked off by construction walls.

That’s because DPP is building features to make the station wheelchair accessible. The project began in late 2014, and is expected to continue through the rest of this year.

When DPP began the project, the walls were white. Soon, however, they were filled with graffiti which included “amorous messages and vulgar poems,” according to

In an effort to make the station a little more appealing, however, DPP has asked local street artists to brighten things up. On Friday night, they gave the walls a makeover.

Now, one side of the station features this piece from artist Jan “Onepoint” Kaláb:

You might be familiar with Pasta Oner’s work around Dejvice or Národní třída, among other places.

We did an interview with the street artist a few years back. You can also check out more of his work at his website.

In-between these two pieces, commuters can also catch artwork from artists TRON and X-DOG as they pass through the station or wait for their trains.

“The primary aim of DPP was to improve the look of the area around the construction site, which was damaged significantly by vandals,” spokesperson Jiří Štábl told “Commuters now have a chance to get a glimpse at works by leading artists not only in the Czech art scene.”

This kind of graffiti is certainly an improvement.
