Avril Lavigne coming to Prague’s Tipsport Arena

Canadian musician Avril Lavigne returns to Prague after a decade

Pop rock star Avril Lavigne will be coming to Prague’s Tipsport Arena on March 23, 2020, with the European leg of her Head Above Water tour. Tickets go on sale November 1 on the Ticketmaster and Ticketportal networks.

The 13-date European leg will start in Zurich and work its way to London, and then the tour will go to China and Japan. This is her first tour since 2013–14’s self titled Avril Lavigne tour, and her first appearance in Prague since 2008’s Best Damn World Tour.

“We had the most amazing time performing on the U.S. Head Above Water Tour! I can’t believe how quickly it went by. Seeing all your faces each night and feeling your energy was exactly what I needed,” Lavigne said.

“I truly missed being up onstage, singing with you and this has brought me so much happiness which is why I’m even more excited to announce that I’ll be taking the Head Above Water Tour worldwide next year with dates in Europe, Japan, China and Southeast Asia!” she added.

The tour is to support the album Head Above Water, which came out in February 2019. Her first album in five years draws inspiration from the musician’s battle with Lyme disease. Much of the album was recorded with Lavigne sitting on a couch due to her illness. The album has spawned four singles including the title track and “Dumb Blonde,” featuring Nicky Minaj.

It was originally announced for 2017, but took longer to record than expected. She said on social media that the delays were because the album was “personal, dear, intimate, dramatic, raw, powerful, strong and unexpected.” She added, “This record is a true emotional journey.”

From each concert ticket sold for the Prague show, 60 CZK will be donated to the Avril Lavigne Foundation, which supports patients with Lyme disease, serious illness or disability. Through programs and grants, it provides prevention options, funding for treatment, and accelerates research to provide hope and change lives.

Her 2002 debut album Let Go, released when she was 17, made her the youngest female soloist to have a number-one album in the UK. The single “Complicated” became an international hit. She had another international number one hit with “Girlfriend,” from her third album, The Best Damn Thing.

Lavigne has sold over 40 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide, and is the third-best-selling Canadian female artist of all time, following Celine Dion and Shania Twain.
