Controversial Czech Intern Search Sets Off Nuclear Reaction

The Temelín Nuclear Power Plant, owned by the ČEZ Group, is located approximately 24 km from České Budějovice and 5 km from Týn nad Vltavou. It is the largest power resource in the Czech Republic—and it’s currently hiring.

But unless you’re a female high school senior with enough sex appeal to melt a small country, don’t bother applying.

The company posted this shockingly sexist—or positively progressive depending on who you’re talking to—notice on its Facebook page recently, writing: “The conjunction of beauty and technology makes an interesting result. We wish to further increase interest of students in the technical disciplines.”

The company has since chosen its finalists, posting pics of the ten lucky contenders posing inside its cooling towers in bikinis.

Each finalist photo includes a pageant-style description of the young lady featured, for example, “Christina from Prague” a “brown eyed brunette who likes sports, cooking, and baking…would like to get into a good college and…isn’t afraid of adrenaline.”

The chosen winner will receive the title “Senior Power”; she will also get to spend two weeks interning at the plant. The competition finishes today at 4pm; winners will be based on votes from Facebook fans.

Responses to the contest have ranged from outraged (“You can’t be serious, it’s totally degrading, disgusting, barbaric,” said one irate commenter) to the predictable Homer Simpson-level humor.
