Czech Republic reports 235 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, 4,822 in total

The Czech Republic saw its number of the confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 235 on Monday to a total of 4,822

Prague, April 7 (CTK) – Czechia saw its number of the confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 235 on Monday to 4,822, with 127 patients having recovered, six of them since Monday evening, and 80 patients having died, two of them since Monday evening, according to the Health Ministry’s data from 08:30.

A total of 91,247 samples have been tested for coronavirus in the country so far, 6,233 on Monday alone.

The proportion of positive test results rose to 3.77 percent on Monday compared with Sunday’s 2.44 percent.

Monday’s number of the newly confirmed cases stands below the daily average from last week (March 30-April 5), which was 253.

The daily increase was the highest on Friday, April 3, 332, and the lowest on Sunday, April 5, 115.

Out of all 14 regions, the number of the novel coronavirus cases is still the highest in Prague, with 89 patients per 100,000 inhabitants. Prague also has the highest absolute number of cases, 1,214, which is about one-quarter of all cases in the Czech Republic.

The region with the second highest number of cases is Olomouc in central Moravia with 69 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

Among various age categories, the highest number of cases are people aged from 45 to 54, who make up almost 20 percent of all cases. The share of seniors over 65 is only a bit smaller as is the share of patients from the age category of 35-44.

On Monday, a total of 408 coronavirus patients stayed in hospitals across the Czech Republic, including 86 in a severe condition.

About 30 percent of the previously hospitalised patients have been released either as fully recovered or to home care.
