According to some forecasts, the summer of 2016 should be one of the hottest on record in Europe.

And one thief in Moravia is starting to prepare.

A burglar lifted over six kilograms of vanilla ice cream – along with approximately 100 cones – from a machine in a Přerov department store on Monday night in what’s being called the biggest frozen dairy heist this year.

“He got inside by unlatching the window battens and then proceeded to steal 6.4 kilograms of vanilla ice cream from the container,” Přerov police department spokesperson Miluše Zajícová told iDnes.cz.

But the thief was particular about his summer treat – he left an entire vat of blueberry-flavored ice cream behind.

Sadly, his actions led to a fatal thaw.

“The second blueberry-filled container had the cover removed, which rendered its contents unusable,” Zajícová said.

The thief also absconded with the window battens that were removed to break into the store. Total damages are estimated to be in the range of 5,000 CZK.

Blueberry ice cream? We’re not a huge fan, either.
