Grom Gelato was first started in Turin, Italy, by friends Federico Gromo and Guido Martinetti who aimed to make gelato as Italians once knew it with pure and natural ingredients. The shop was purchased by Unilever in 2015 as one of their craft ice cream brands. The gelato is now available in more than 60 locations worldwide.
“We believe that Grom Gelato will bring a greater quality ice cream culture to Prague. We are sure that people will appreciate it even in these difficult times,” Jan Diehel, Unilever’s ice cream brand category manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, told MediaGuru.CZ.
The gelateria will be located at Wenceslas Square 55, right across the statue of St. Wenceslas and next to a Starbucks. The gelateria will also include a small sitting area for guests to enjoy a cup of coffee from Cokafe roastery.
At Grom Gelato, patrons can pick whether they want gelato in a cone or cup. It’s also sold in select stores across Czech Republic, including Albert, Marks & Spender and La Formaggeria.
The brand plans to target both tourists and residents, the brand director said.
“We don’t want to be a gelato just for tourists. Therefore, we chose a friendly location for Prague residents. The gelateria is close to an important public transport hub – the Muzeum metro station and not far from Vinohrady,” said Jan Diehel.
When the shop opens on July 2, it plans to offer visitors free gelato.
