The food festival season in Prague typically kicks off in spring with a number of citywide events inviting gastronomes to sample the Czech capital’s tastiest culinary offerings in picnic-like settings.
There’s one conspicuous absence from the circuit this year: Prague Food Festival. Prague’s longest-running food fest, originally taking place on the lawns of Prague Castle but moving to Vyšehrad in recent years, is sitting this season out.
“We announce to you this year XIII. the PRAGUE FOOD FESTIVAL will not take place because we are preparing a new – completely original – [project into which we are putting] all our strength and enthusiasm!” the festival wrote on its website and Facebook page.
It goes on to say that “[Fans] have something to look forward to, so watch the official Facebook page of Maurer’s Grand Restaurant where you can learn about everything first.”
The festival, typically taking place the last week of May, was often criticized for its high entrance fees and “Grands” system and incompatibility with the rising preference for casual dining and street-food trends in Prague,
Luckily for local food lovers and festival goers, there are a number of picnic-style food events coming up to keep Instagram feeds colorful and the hunger for trends satisfied:

The 9th annual culinary market and gastronomic festival in one, organized by the magazine Apetit, this year will once again take place in the beautiful environment of the park Grébovka in Vinohrady. Guests can also enjoy a wide variety of open-air meals and drinks.
