Passengers of Prague’s metro can already take advantage of mobile coverage throughout numerous stations of the metro network and adjacent tunnels, now the city’s Public Transport Authority (DPP) has announced coverage on additional sections of the B line.

Making phone calls and using mobile data via high-speed LTE network is now possible between Anděl and Smíchovské nádraží, DPP announced Wednesday.

Mobile coverage is now available across 22 stations, adjacent tunnels, and tracks including Bořislavka-Motol Hospital (4 stations) and Můstek-Museum (2 stations) on route A, on route C in the section Nádraží Holešovice-Roztyly (12 stations), and on route B Křižíkova-Invalidovna (2 stations).

The transport company, together with mobile operators, plans to further expand the network later this summer. By mid-June, it will cover the section Florenc B-Invalidovna, in mid-June the network will also extend to Palmovka. At the beginning of the summer holidays, this technology will be extended to five other stations of lines A and B: Staroměstská, Malostranská, Hradčanská, Dejvická, Českomoravská, and adjacent tunnels.

The transport company promised to cover all stations with a signal by 2022.

Last October, Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib said: “By 2020 we should be able to cover the whole center and by 2022 complete all the stations. And if we manage to speed up the work as we plan, we can cover the entire metro with a signal already in 2021. Keep your fingers crossed.”
