Movie Barf Monday: Les Misérables

For the month of February this regular English-friendly film series showcases the upcoming awards season with screenings of films from the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars and this year’s Czech Lion awards. A screening of “Les Misérables,” by debut director Ladj Ly won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes festival and is nominated for Best Foreign Film at this year’s Oscars, kicks off the series.

Martinez’s sophomore album and film, “K-12”, is another ambitious triumph. A vibrant and singular melting pot of low-key hip-hop, soulful pop and indie-leaning electro. Support for the Prague show is Naaz.
Love and Money

Love and Money is a play about the devastating effect of materialism in relationships. A cruel and dark comedy that puts consumerism and debt under the microscope in seven vignettes, seven portraits of dysfunctional relationships which are somehow connected.
Asian New Year 2020

Celebrate the year of the Rat by indulging in Asian specialties such as Chinese dumplings, Vietnamese pho, Peking duck, Mongolian pastries or Indian curry. An accompanying program will take place as well.
Exhibition opening: Dry Waters

The opening of the exhibition of photographs and text Dry Waters by Argentinian author Santiago Pérez and Czech author Kateřina Hankeová will also include a presentation of their other art projects – Barked and Fabula cantata. Admission is free.
Cava tasting, Torello winery

The winery and its cava, a Spanish sparkling wine produced by a traditional Champagne method, will be introduced by the exclusive importer of Torelló wines to the Czech Republic, Tereza Formánková. During the degustation, eight samples of this premium sparkling wine will be introduced.

In support of her latest album Back to Blues, the American singer in Prague gets back to her musical roots, performing 10 songs that shaped her as an artist. The album “Back to Blues” grew out of a collaboration with Lukáš Martínek and special guests, including outstanding jazz pianists Ondřej Pivec and outstanding instrumentalist Josef Štěpánek.
Comic Con Prague

The world phenomenon Comic-Con comes to Prague for the first time ever and it’s shaping up to by quite the event! The most famous pop-culture festival focuses on films and series, games, comics, and books, most often in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres.
Vegan Žižkov Fest 2020

Kino Ponrepo, February 9
Ecstasy was directed by Gustav Machatý and starred Hedy Kiesler before she moved to Hollywood and changed her name to Hedy Lamarr. The film is most famous for having the first nude scene in a major motion picture, something that caused censorship problems in many countries at the time. The restored version took home a prize for the best-restored film at this year’s 76th Venice International Film Festival.
